IMGL8017Shooting in the snow for the Experience Folk promo video with my sistas dem, Ieasha and SapoDILLA, left me in SPACE. Literally… IN the black womb of the universe as we reflected on what it means to be a black woman. Check out the video HERE.

As an ascendant of the original storytellers, its only right that I give it to you with some artistic rhythm:

TO MY SISTAS:

WHAT ARE YOU GIRL?
A WOMAN OR A GIRL?
A LIFE SPENT QUESTIONING,
COLORING,
LABELING,
WATCHING,
WAITING FOR ANSWERS.
NO MORE
SEEKING,
SEARCHING,
ACCEPTING CONFUSION.
NO COLORS INSIDE
WASH THE STAINS FROM YOUR MIND

UNLESS YOU BELIEVE IT…
RELEASE YOURSELF.
IT’S NOT THEM,
YOU IMPRISON YOURSELF.
STOP DEFINING!
STOP ACCEPTING!
STOP NEGLECTING!
STOP BELIEVING!

IMGL8052The fallacy that we call race has embedded itself deeply into every grain of society to the point of being crystallized in our minds. Race isn’t the only lie that has been normalized in contemporary culture, but it is the most significant. The fact that the majority of humans on this planet are left wanting in a world run by a small greedy minority of people who choose to identify themselves as “white” is quite a conundrum to find ourselves in.

IMGL8040 IMGL8045

Charged to coagulate with fellow healers in order to restore universal balance, I am more often then not faced with “race” as the rotten core of our molecular reality.

It’s fake, yes.

The truth is far greater, yes.

And still – We must deal with it.

The why isn’t the subject of this expression, but for one- we are all drowning in this illusion that has programed the innermost recesses of our minds by virtue of simply existing in the modern world. Chucking it to harmless classification is a dangerous distraction. The theory of race didn’t always exist, and the racial classifications used today are relatively new considering the entire scope of human existence. If it were just used as a form of geographical indication, then that could be a valid point – but it’s in fact used to continuously insinuate the superiority/inferiority of particular groups. This conveniently sparked around the time Europeans needed to justify the savagery of the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans and chattel slavery. Again, a mere speck in time in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of years prior to this idea.

So whether you’re conscious or unconscious of your post traumatic slave syndrome, as Dr. Joy DeGruy calls it… our social construct teaches us to disassociate ourselves from our rich African heritage outside of the constructed ideas of the post-colonial “third world”. Race perpetuates this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been left scratching my head after someone says, “I’m black but I’m not African”. I mean even historically speaking, the classification of black/negro has been to categorize those of us of African ascent. But then again EVERYONE CAME FROM AFRICA, right? LOL I digress.

That piece!!!!! Is EVERYTHING. It's so hard to process all of the REAL facets of identity with all of the distractions we have on a regular basis. I needed this reminder to look deeper. Peace ❤️

Ahhh... to sit and savor this piece...

It's difficult to know the truth but still have to maneuver in a realm that refuses to give up the power of racial construct. Because no matter how many of us have jumped over these hurdles with true information and ancestral wisdom, we still have to adhere to those of us who've deeply been traumatized by the planned power behind these constructs. So in the spirit of reprogramming and rewiring our community, I personally believe that we have to meet our folks where they're at, work with them through these veils of deceit, and provide them with the possibility of truth. Once there is choice, there is a chance at eradicating these insidious paradigms.
